Heritage in motion

From 1909 to now – the legacy of Atala rides on.
Explore the pivotal milestones that transformed a 1907 Milanese workshop into today’s high-performance Whistle brand. Expand each chapter below to uncover how innovation, competition, and Italian craftsmanship shaped our journey from Atala’s early victories to Whistle’s cutting-edge engineering.

From Atala to Whistle: A Legacy of Pure Sport

The seeds of a legend sown in Milan (1907–1920)

In 1907, former Bianchi director Angelo Gatti founded Atala in Milan, naming the company after his mother. By 1909, Luigi Ganna had already pedaled an Atala bicycle to victory in the inaugural Giro d’Italia, instantly establishing the brand as a force in racing. Throughout the 1910s and 1920s, Atala and its affiliated teams (Maino, Umberto Dei) dominated international competitions. Their relentless pursuit of innovation and competitive spirit laid the groundwork for everything that would follow.

Adapting to change, redefining ambition (2002–2011)

After a 2002 restructuring and relocation to Monza, Atala joined the Accell Group in 2011—opening new global opportunities. To honor its storied past while aiming for cutting-edge performance, Atala reserved its historic name for urban and leisure bikes, and introduced Whistle as its dedicated sport division. Whistle’s moniker—evoking the starter’s whistle—embodied a fresh call to racing excellence. From day one, every Whistle frame was conceived and assembled in Italy with uncompromising focus on competition.

Engineering the future with carbon (2015–2022)

Whistle wasted no time pushing boundaries beyond Atala’s early e-bike prototypes. Its flagship Mission Carbon program combined aerospace-grade Toray T700 fibers with advanced high-temperature molding techniques. The result: e-MTBs like the B-Rush series, which boast ultralight monocoque carbon frames and the latest Bosch electric drives. This relentless engineering ethos produces machines that conquer steep climbs and technical descents alike—where every gram and every watt serve the athlete’s ambition.

From Italian workshops to world-class trails (2023 and beyond)

Although now part of a global group, Whistle remains fiercely Italian in its design and assembly. With Accell’s distribution network, Whistle bikes travel from the Alps to the Rockies—delivering that signature blend of innovation, craftsmanship, and racing DNA. Professional athletes test each model under the most demanding conditions, ensuring every new release pushes the envelope further. To ride a Whistle is to join an evolving legacy: one foot in over a century of tradition, the other in tomorrow’s cutting-edge performance.
